Paneer Jalfrezi

Paneer Jhalfarezi is a vibrant Indo-Chinese stir-fry of paneer, peppers, onions, and tomatoes tossed with spices and green chillies. Quick to cook and full of flavour, it’s a tangy, spicy dish that pairs perfectly with parathas or rice.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 400 g paneer, cut into strips
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 1 red pepper, sliced
  • 2 medium tomatoes, cut into wedges
  • 2–3 green chillies, slit
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tbsp chilli sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh coriander, chopped, for garnish
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Method

  • Heat oil in a pan add the onions and green chillies. Sauté until softened but still a little crisp.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for a minute. Stir in turmeric, chilli powder, and cumin powder.
  • Add the peppers and cook for 2–3 minutes. They should remain crunchy.
  • Toss in the tomato wedges and paneer. Stir gently.
